Welcome to the Elmwood High School Biology II website! This site will be used to communicate with one another, sharing our findings and ideas, as well as to access most of the notes, labs, worksheets, and homework assigned or completed in class. I want you to have access to as much as possible in order to make this class a success. I will continually update this site throughout the year as plans grow and change when we progress through the units listed above. During this course, you will learn concepts from many different science sub-disciplines, including anatomy and physiology, medicine, health science, advanced biology concepts, microbiology, and more. For most of this class, we will focus on humans, while studying the comparative anatomy of vertebrates (like cows or pigs, for example). We will perform experimentation, dissections, and literature analysis from current news stories and scientific research to keep this class up-to-date and engaging!

Before you can participate in labs, you and a parent/guardian must read and sign the lab safety contract. Safety in the classroom is our #1 priority! You must also read the technology rules and understand the consequences for abusing technology in the classroom before using your own device or the schools' devices under my supervision.

In-Class Portfolios
You will have your own folder as a portfolio that stays in the classroom!
One of my goals for this class is for you to learn how to evaluate your own progress throughout the Biology II units. I don't want you to get to the end of the unit and think "why didn't I do better or try harder?". Instead, I want you to be able to assess how you are doing at any point in time, which will help you stay on track. At the beginning of every unit, you will fill out a sheet, describing your goal for the upcoming unit. Maybe you want a certain grade or to study more efficiently. It is YOUR goal... not mine, and everyone's goal will be different. At some point in the unit, you will place an assessment within your portfolio that you are particularly proud of, for whatever reason it may be! You will fill out a corresponding "Show off" sheet that I provide, answering questions about the assessment, describing why you are proud of your work and what you learned from completing it. Lastly, at the end of each unit after your test (if you finish early), you will describe your strengths, weaknesses, and planned improvements for the unit, as well as give me some feedback on what you loved and what you didn't. Your goal sheets, show off sheets, and all unit tests will be kept within your portfolio and will be shown to your parents/guardians at conferences.
Case Study Discussion Posts
Each unit, we will complete a case study discussion post about a situation that relates to the concepts and body system we have been studying throughout the unit! This is a way for you to practice your summarizing, writing, and reflecting skills while learning about what happens if something goes wrong with the body system and homeostasis is disrupted!
Request to Retest
You must fill out this lengthy request form before retaking a Biology 2 test. Since these tests are very difficult, I allow you to retake them for full credit each and every unit if you choose to complete the request form. Note that you must show me evidence of preparing for your retake! The retake tests will be similar but not identical to the original tests.
